To celebrate the season, Prairie City Business Association will sponsor a Community Holiday Lighting Contest in December, encouraging citizens and businesses to create a festive destination for others to enjoy.
The competition for this year will be divided into 5 residential categories and one business category. Judges will peruse the town on the evening of December 19th to select the winners in each category. Winners will receive a yard sign as well as Prairie City Bucks. Categories and prizes for the 2020 Holiday Lighting Competition are:
- Best Window Display (visible from the street) $50 Prairie City Bucks
- Best Exterior Tree $50 Prairie City Bucks
- Best Traditional Yard Display $100 Prairie City Bucks
- Best Griswold Yard Display $100 Prairie City Bucks
- Best Business Display Bragging Rights
Also, a NEW People’s Choice category is being added. The winner of this category will be decided by community members through online voting from December 13 to December 18. To participate in the People’s Choice contest, photos need to be uploaded thru the link below or emailed to pcbaiowa@gmail.com before 11:59 PM on December 12, 2020.
The Holiday Light Fight competition is open to any resident and business within the Prairie City municipal city limits who places any form holiday lighting that is intentionally visible from the road.
